Biography

Arielle Yeshua, M.D., is board eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN). Originally from New York, Dr. Yeshua earned her medical degree at Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell in Hempstead, New York. She completed her residency in OB/GYN at Lenox Hill Hospital at Northwell Health in New York City where she served as Administrative Chief. Currently, she is a fellow at SGF Jones Insitute and the Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia.

Dr. Yeshua has contributed to numerous publications and presentations focusing on topics such as LGBTQ+ family-building, racial disparities in reproductive medicine, and egg freezing, among others.

Dr. Yeshua provides patient care at SGF Jones Institute. In her spare time, she enjoys baking, rowing and trying new restaurants with family and friends.

Q&A

My own family inspired my interest in medicine: when my mother experienced difficult pregnancies, her struggles were made worse by a healthcare system that did not take her or her concerns seriously. I’ve always been driven to succeed where my mother’s doctors failed: to deliver responsive, patient-centered care to people who are, were, or seek to become pregnant, and to improve our methods and quality of care through research.

As a teenager I read an article detailing a patient’s battle with infertility and how therapy and medical intervention helped them achieve pregnancy. I was amazed at what science and technology could do to help people create their families. My first job out of college was as the SART (Society of Assisted Reproductive Technology) coordinator at a fertility clinic. I witnessed firsthand the miracle of fertility assistance and I’ve never looked back.

I am extremely proud and grateful to be an SGF fellow and to train at the Jones Institute. My fellowship at SGF is an opportunity to carry on the example of my best mentors by blending research, surgical dexterity, and patient-advocacy skills to improve patient care and women’s health.

My earliest research involved same-sex couples who were breaking new ground starting their own families. I am always honored when aspiring parents invite me to be part of their journey, and this particular patient population inspired my first research publication, “Female Couples Undergoing IVF with Partner Eggs (Co-IVF): Pathways to Parenthood.” My co-authors and I termed “Co-IVF” to describe the modern understanding of the shared experience of same-sex female couples.

My approach is to prioritize listening and understanding. Although my training and medical practice have given me expertise in obstetrics, gynecology, and fertility, every individual patient has expertise in their own goals, experiences, and concerns. I can only provide the best, most tailored and empathetic services after I get to know and understand my patients’ hopes, wishes, and worries. One of my goals in providing patient-centered care as an REI is to give each of my patients the assurance that I hear and understand their concerns and that they hear and understand mine.

I’m inspired by my dedicated colleagues at SGF and by our courageous patients. I witness firsthand my mentoring physicians’ unwavering dedication to research, their exceptional clinical skills, and their profound compassion. And I’m motivated every day by our patients’ resilience, vision, and trust in our care.

I’m optimistic, adaptable, and team-oriented. And I love meeting new people!

To run an animal farm sanctuary.

I love coming up with new healthy recipes to share with family and friends. Recently, I took up gymnastics after an almost 20-year hiatus. Nothing clears my mind quite like the dizzying freedom of tumbling through the air.

My husband and I love getting to know our new community in Virginia Beach, getting better at pickleball, and spoiling our cat Charlie and dog Lily.
